In the Fall of 2016 the Cajon Valley Governing Board voted to develop a career development framework for every child in every grade across their 27 schools. This decision drove LCAP planning and alignment of budget and resources to implement a vision of developing happy kids, in healthy relationships, on a path to gainful employment. Over the course of the next six months a team of K-12 educators, business professionals, higher education professors and researchers worked to design the World of Work initiative.

The World of Work Initiative (WoW) is a career development framework and process that ensures that all students experience a minimum of 54 careers between K-8 and develop the skills and knowledge to develop a vision for their future possible selves. The research based initiative prepares teachers to integrate the four-level framework that includes; exploration - (learning about careers); simulation - (try on a career); meet a pro - (meet someone who has the career); and practice (demonstrations of learning). The WOW initiative was launched district wide during the 2017-2018 school year across the Cajon Valley Union School District. Already, the effort has gained praise from global leaders in educational psychology and career development. Join this presentation to gain an understanding of why most career education falls short in meeting true career development standards and how Cajon Valley is helping every child find their place in the world of work.
